Your Credit Report |
Analyzing and Disputing Your Credit Report This method applies to disputing directly with the credit bureau. You have the right to dispute any item(s) on your report that you find to be inaccurate, incomplete or obsolete. The credit bureau will then contact the creditor to verify your dispute. Under the Federal Law, the investigation must be completed within 20 working days (about a month). If the credit bureau or creditor does not respond within 30 days, the disputed item must be removed. If the credit bureau investigates the item and the information is found to be inaccurate or no longer verifiable, the credit bureau must also delete the item. Keep in mind that if the negative item is several or more years old, many creditors may not respond to the credit bureaus investigation due to lack of records. Then the bureau must remove the item from your file. Very Important: Make sure you never dispute more than 3 items at a time with each credit bureau. Get those items fixed first before disputing any more. As discussed previously, it takes patience and persistence to get the job finished. You must also be organized and keep files and track records of all your disputes and efforts for all three credit bureaus. Also see here |
"I couldn't believe it! I checked over my credit report and found an error from an
issue I thought I had worked out years ago. By using your information I was able
to clear it up and could then get that loan I wanted at a lower interest rate
than previously expected" |
