Your Credit Report |
Important Note regarding Letter Statements When mailing follow up disputes to the credit bureaus, make sure to go to the post office and send them Certified Mail, Return Receipt Requested. This will demonstrate that you are serious about your correspondence. Also, this will provide you with proof that they received it. Save it in your file for that dispute. It's also very important that you include in your follow up dispute letters a firm request for proof of the item. This will ensure that the bureaus are actually obtaining documentation from the creditors and not just verifying their records. Erasing Inquiries All credit inquiries come off your file after 2 years. They do lower your credit score if there are a bunch of them listed within a short period of time. To remove inquiries you should: • First, look towards the end of your report to locate all inquiries reported on your file. You should be able to recognize some of them as they are the places you may have applied for credit. • Then, find the address listed for each credit inquirer. If the address is unlisted you may call the credit bureau for the address. Once you have collected all the addresses for each inquiry on all three reports, you are ready to prepare your letter. Remember that inquiry disputes are directed to the creditor, not the credit bureau. • The last step is to prepare a letter to each inquiring creditor asking them to remove the inquiry. Remember that The Fair Credit Reporting Act allows only authorized inquiries to be reported on a consumer's credit report. You challenge will be whether the creditor had proper authorization for pulling your credit file. |
"I couldn't believe it! I checked over my credit report and found an error from an
issue I thought I had worked out years ago. By using your information I was able
to clear it up and could then get that loan I wanted at a lower interest rate
than previously expected" |
