Your Credit Report |
Your letter to the inquiring creditors should look something like: RE: Unauthorized credit inquiry Dear "company name" Recently I received a copy of my "credit bureaus name" credit report. The report shows an inquiry made by your company that I do not recall authorizing. I understand that an inquiry should not be reported unless it's authorized. Please have this inquiry removed from my credit file as it's making it difficult for me to acquire credit. This letter has been sent certified mail for your prompt response. Please forward back documentation showing that the inquiry was removed. If you find that I am mistaken and you did have my authorization to inquire into my credit report, please provide proof. Thank you in advance, Your Name It's very important that your letter to the creditors be mailed Certified - Return Receipt. Since some creditors may try to ignore your challenge, you will have proof of it. If you don't' receive an answer within 30 days, call the creditor and demand action. Now you have ample grounds to do this. At this point it's pretty irrelevant whether you gave the authorization for the inquiry or not. Now it's about the creditor's lack of response to a consumer's dispute. Many of your inquiring creditors may agree to delete the inquiry as a courtesy or if they cannot verify the information. If they do not, make sure to hold your ground that the inquiry be immediately removed or you will submit a complaint to the State Banking Commission. It's not likely that you will remove all the inquiries, just enough to get credit. That's the main goal. |
"I couldn't believe it! I checked over my credit report and found an error from an
issue I thought I had worked out years ago. By using your information I was able
to clear it up and could then get that loan I wanted at a lower interest rate
than previously expected" |
