Your Rights As A Consumer


Under the Federal Fair Credit Reporting Act, you may:

•     Obtain a credit report from the credit bureaus at no charge within 60 days of being denied credit,
insurance or employment.

•     Dispute any information on the credit report that you feel is listed incorrectly. The credit bureau
must re-investigate and verify the information (Usually within 30 days)

•     Have negative information (late payments, judgments, ect.) removed after 7 years. Bankruptcies
may take 10 years to come off depending which chapter was filed. You may obtain detailed
information about bankruptcy here.

•     Be represented by anyone of your choice from the credit bureau.

•     Submit a consumer statement in your file to tell your side regarding any negative information.

•     Have the credit bureau notify those you name, who have previously received incomplete or
incorrect information on you and provide them with the correct credit report.

•     Have your credit report withheld from anyone, who under the law, does not have a legitimate need
for the report.

•     Sue the credit bureau if they negligently or willfully violate the law.
